Vegan comfort food is plentiful! One of the things people have a hard time with when going vegan though, is finding comfort food. We miss lasagna. Mac and cheese. Shepherd’s pie! Delicious cake!

When we first start moving toward vegan eating we scour the recipes. We buy ingredients we’ve never heard of. We spend a ton of money, time, and energy on new recipes only to have them turn out totally gross. It’s so frustrating!

I’ve been there. All the wasted money! The disappointment! The feeling like if we want to help the animals/Earth/our health we have to give up delicious comfort food and it feels so depressing!

Don’t worry though! Delicious vegan comfort food really is out there and it is not difficult to make, I promise! I love to cook and have tried so many recipes over the years. A ton have ended up in the trash because they were just so… gross.

Whether you are just starting to think about eating less animal/animal products or have been been vegan for years, these five recipes are ones you are going to want to make! They are the best of the best out there in my experience. I have a couple of notes that I’ll share with each recipe that might be helpful.

Here are 5 delicious vegan comfort food recipes you have to try!

Recipe #1: The Best Vegan Lasagna by Side of Sneakers

This first one is the one I always recommend to people who have either just gone vegan or are vegan and making a meal for non-vegan people. I have made this so many times and the feedback is always the same “this is so good! I don’t even miss the meat!”

Another note: this cheese recipe is one of my favorites. I use it on pizza, in stuffed shells, baked pasta… you can flavor it so many different ways too.

Vegan Comfort Food Recipe #2: The Best Ever Vegan Mac and Cheese by Loving it Vegan

This is my son’s favorite meal! He is thirteen and recently decided to go vegan. This is a regular meal in our home- one he loved even before going vegan. It’s gooey and creamy and chock full of flavor.

A couple of notes that work for us: I use half the amount of nutritional yeast in the sauce and usually only use two cans of coconut milk. This meal is AWESOME leftover! I swear it just keeps getting better the more you reheat it (especially if you reheat in the oven!).

Mashed potatoes? Um, yes. Always. Pair them with these incredible lentils-turned-shepherd’s pie and you just won’t believe how delicious vegan comfort food can be! I serve this with fresh snowflake or Parker house rolls and cranberry sauce. This is one of my daughter’s favorites!

I make this in a casserole dish or in individual dishes. This is a recipe I make when I want to deliver a meal to somebody who is grieving or in need of comfort and it always gets great feedback.

Sometimes it’s Sunday afternoon and the game’s on. You want snacky, familiar, game day food. Enter Buffalo Wings from Bad Manners!

Here they are in a Buffalo Caeser Wrap (which is also delicious!) but I use this recipe for the wings themselves. They are. SO. GOOD! Whip up a vegan ranch or blue cheese dressing, cut up some celery sticks, sit back, and enjoy the game with your usual comfort food, without harming any sweet animals!

Vegan Comfort Food Recipe #5: The Best Vegan Lemon Cake from Loving it Vegan

A GAME CHANGING Recipe! Photo Credit: Loving it Vegan

Okay. This recipe was a serious game changer for me. After over a dozen year being vegan I had not been able to make a decadent cupcake or cake. I was spending so much money on vegan baked goods!

While I love supporting small local bakers it was getting harder and harder to find them. I went back to the (Pinterest!) drawing board in pursuit of a great recipe and found this.

I am telling you. This is the best vegan cake recipe out there. It is SO EASY to make. You can whip it up in no time at all and people melt with their first bite!

I use this basic cake recipe for all of my cakes and cupcakes. I leave out the lemon and add extra vanilla. I use a little less flour and add cocoa. I’ve even used this cake recipe to make a chocolate orange cake and a strawberry shortcake! It is so versatile and easy to maneuver.

In my opinion it’s a staple in any vegan kitchen. And NOBODY will know it’s vegan- so when you are all done eating you can enjoy the shocked and disbelieving eyes upon realizing no animals were harmed for the cake that was just consumed!

I hope these vegan comfort food recipes comfort you by letting you know you can still have your favorites without harming any animals in the process. It doesn’t have to be an either or!

    1. I hope this is THE ONE for you πŸ™‚ As I said, I use a bit less coconut milk and nooch… but see what you think as you are mixing it in. Make sure you bake it until it’s definitely done. I think that’s key. Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting. I really appreciate it. <3

    1. Thanks, Jenn! Changing the way we eat is hard sometimes. 1. The first few times I made the lasagna it was clunky and awkward. So many new things to learn… now though, I could make it in my sleep! Let me know if you try the lemon cake. That one is not clunky at all. 10 minutes for the cake and maybe that for the frosting. SO EASY! Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting. <3
